Amazon takes two main cuts on FBA sales: the referral fee (a percentage of the selling price, usually 8–17% by category) and the FBA fulfillment fee (per-unit pick, pack and ship — roughly $3–6+ depending on size and weight).
Worked example
- Selling price: $49.99, product cost: $18, category: 15% referral
- Referral fee: $49.99 × 15% = $7.50
- FBA fee: $4.50 (standard small parcel)
- Total fees: $12.00 → profit = $49.99 − $12.00 − $18 = $19.99 (40% margin)
